WEDDING POLICIES:

  1. All weddings involving the Minister and/or the facilities of "First United Church" must be approved by the First United Council. When necessary, the Minister may ask the Council Chair to convene a special meeting of the Council to expedite the review of some applications.

  2. Should a request for a same-sex marriage be received by the Minister or First United Church Office, such requests will be referred to the Toronto Conference Office to find a suitable location and person to officiate.

Marriage is a sacred bond upon which rests the blessing of Christ and his Church. Therefore, aim to preserve the religious significance of the ceremony.


WEDDING PLANNING GUIDE: --- Effective: November 1, 2007

Please fill out the enclosed Marriage Form and send it to the Church Office as soon as possible. The Minister will arrange to meet with you "for pre-marriage counselling and wedding planning".

Normally, the Minister and Music Director of First United Church will conduct all weddings. The Council must approve any requests for a "Minister and /or Music Director", other than the serving Minister and Music Director.

In Ontario. you need to purchase a Marriage Licence at a City/Municipal office. The License needs to be submitted to the Church Office ONE WEEK in advance of your wedding, at the same time. your total wedding honoraria is requested:

* Please enclose the above honoraria in one cheque payable to "First United Church".

The wedding flowers can be delivered to the Church by the Florist, one hour in advance of your wedding. Candelabras if rented should be delivered to the Church at the same time. Flower stands provided.

A photographer and a video operator are welcome at your wedding. Photos in the church can be arranged after the service is completed.

The Church requests that confetti must not be used, either inside or outside the Church; and, that there be no smoking or alcohol within the buildings.

A rehearsal will normally be held for the wedding party on the evening before the, wedding, or at a mutually convenient time. It will begin on time and will last approximately forty minutes.
